David Nelson Ostrosser, “How I Came To Fall”
Nov 1, 2011 6:00 AM by Michael Verity

You might remember David Nelson Ostrosser from a few months ago when we gave you a free copy of his tune, “Only A Daydream Away.” It’s time for an Ostrosser encore with poignant story song, “How I Came To Fall.”

You might also remember that Ostrosser is the son of an evangelical Christian singer who later found himself in dive bars, playing songs for junkies and naked go-go dancers (and getting arrested to boot.)

Ostrosser draws on those experiences for “How I Came To Fall,” a Randy Newman-sounding tune that talks of temptation (beer), temptation (women) and more temptation (beer and women). We don’t want to spoil the story but these things have a little bit to do with how he came to fall.

You can find this one on his album, Second Hand Store.

Proving truth is stranger than fiction, David Nelson Ostrosser is the son of an evangelical Christian singer who later found himself in dive bars, playing songs for junkies and naked go-go dancers (and getting arrested to boot.)

It all ended in the 1980s when, while playing a club just off Hull, Quebec’s notorious Hull Strip, he found his “engagement [come] to an abrupt end when a half-dozen police raided the club and came onstage to arrest the drummer” (which, to us, sounds like something out of Another Roadside Attraction.)

Since then, Ostrosser has settled into a simpler life of friends, family, a regular guy job and some extra time to produce some fine recordings of gentle country music.

We like this one, “Only A Daydream Away, ” ‘cuz it reminds us of Tom T. Hall‘s songwriting and Randy Newman‘s voice, all wrapped up in a lilting country ballad of daydreams (taken from his album, Second Hand Store).

(Comment from Craig Galway)
A little more melancholy than Tom T. Hall I think, but definitely sounds like a nice 70's country tune. The vocal is alright and worth a listen if you like old style country. Thumbs up. http://www.live-audio.com/

Christian Lamitschka, of Country Home Magazine in Germany has recommended Second Hand Store as its top album pick for November 2009!

"Auf dem aktuellen Album von David Nelson Ostrosser geben sich die unterschiedlichsten Musikrichtungen die Klinke in die Hand. Da passiert es schon, dass sich Pop mit Country und America mischt. Doch das macht das Album gerade empfehlenswert. Denn es ist etwas anders als andere Alben."

"Since everybody by now has seen the Conservative attack ads, here's a nice change on an Iggy video from David Nelson Ostrosser. "

Stan Koren says of the album "Second Hand Store":

"A very unique CD... he has some amazing songs on there that just stick with you. They just have, I think, that universal appeal.»
